Privacy policy
The short version: the app has no account system, no analytics on your speech, and no server it needs to talk to in order to work.
Your voice and your transcripts
With the local engine — the default — recording and transcription both happen on your Mac using the Whisper model bundled inside the app. Audio is written to a temporary file, transcribed, and discarded. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is sent to us.
If you switch the transcription engine to OpenAI or OpenRouter, your audio is sent directly from your Mac to that provider using your own API key, and is handled under their privacy policy and terms. The same applies to Compose, which always uses an online provider.
Screen Context
Screen Context is off unless you switch it on. When enabled, FlowType captures a single image of your current main display for each Compose request you make, sends it to the provider you selected alongside your instruction, and deletes the temporary image file immediately afterwards. It is never captured for Dictate.
What is stored on your Mac
Settings, your dictionary, snippets, word counters, and transcript history are stored locally in the app's support directory. You can switch on auto-clear so transcript history is never retained. API keys and licence state are stored in the macOS Keychain rather than in a plain settings file.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. We do store the email address you used at checkout together with a record of the purchase and the licence issued, so that the licence can be resent to you on request. Delivery email is sent through Resend.
This website
We record basic, non-identifying download events — the referring page and a coarse source label — to know which parts of the site people download from. We do not sell data, run advertising trackers, or build profiles of visitors.
Updates
When you check for updates, FlowType requests a signed release manifest from GitHub. That request reaches GitHub, not us, and contains no personal data beyond what any HTTPS request includes.
